La reparación de la uretra y la vejiga se realiza, generalmente, para evitar el goteo de orina asociado con la incontinencia de estrés. La incontinencia de estrés es el goteo involuntario de orina a causa de la risa, tos, estornudo o esfuerzo al levantar algo pesado. Esto puede ser el resultado de una deformidad o daño de la uretra y la vejiga a partir de la disminución del tono muscular debido a partos múltiples, menopausia u otras causas.
