Procedimiento

Cada año se realizan con éxito miles de cirugías de las orejas u otoplastias. Este procedimiento puede llevarse a cabo en el consultorio del cirujano, en un centro ambulatorio o en el hospital. El paciente puede estar despierto pero sin sentir dolor (bajo anestesia local) o profundamente dormido y sin sentir dolor (bajo anestesia general). El procedimiento tarda alrededor de dos horas, dependiendo de la extensión de la cirugía.

En la mayoría de los casos, las incisiones se realizan en la parte posterior de la oreja y se extrae la piel para exponer el cartílago de la oreja. Luego, se usan suturas para plegar el cartílago con el fin de reconstruir la oreja.

Algunos cirujanos escogen no hacer suturas y, a cambio, cortan o raspan el cartílago antes de plegarlo.

Posteriormente, se aproxima más la oreja a la cabeza, creando un pliegue más pronunciado (antihélix) en la parte central de la oreja.
