Después de la cirugía se cubren las orejas con un vendaje grueso que aplica presión moderada. Se siente un poco de sensibilidad y molestia que se controla fácilmente con medicamentos. Si la cirugía se practica en un hospital, usualmente se da al paciente de alta el mismo día o al día siguiente.

Los vendajes de presión externa se quitan a los dos o cuatro días, pero se recomienda utilizar un vendaje liviano en la cabeza durante dos o tres semanas para facilitar la cicatrización. Las cicatrices leves se ocultan en los pliegues de flexión detrás de las orejas y no se hacen incisiones en la parte anterior de las mismas.
