Estas almohadillas vasculares pueden hincharse o inflamarse frecuentemente a causa de un aumento en la presión intra- abdominal como, por ejemplo, cuando se hace esfuerzo a causa de estreñimiento o durante el embarazo. Esta inflamación ocasiona dolor, sangrado y prurito (picazón). La extirpación de las hemorroides se recomienda cuando los tratamientos no quirúrgicos (dieta rica en fibra, laxantes, reblandecedores de materia fecal, supositorios, medicamentos o baños tibios) no proporcionan el alivio adecuado de:
