El recto es la porción final del intestino grueso que vierte las heces del cuerpo a través del ano. Los ligamentos sujetan el recto en su posición y cuando estos ligamentos se debilitan, el recto puede salirse de su posición original, hacia abajo, atravesando el ano. Esta condición se denomina prolapso rectal.
