Procedimiento

Se hace una pequeña incisión en el tímpano y se succiona el fluido acumulado, mientras el paciente se encuentra profundamente dormido y sin sentir dolor (bajo anestesia general). Se inserta un tubo pequeño a través del tímpano, con el fin de secar el oído medio y evitar que el fluido se reacumule. El procedimiento dura menos de 30 minutos; la anestesia empleada es temporal y segura. La incisión cicatriza sin suturas y usualmente el orificio se cierra espontáneamente. Los tubos auditivos se desprenden después de pocos meses.
