Con excepción del cáncer de la piel, el cáncer de próstata es el tipo de cáncer más común entre los hombres en los Estados Unidos. La detección temprana se hace por medio de un examen de sangre llamado antígeno prostático específico (PSA) o por medio de un examen rectal digital. Dependiendo de la etapa de la enfermedad, la presencia de cáncer en la próstata puede requerir resección quirúrgica (extirpación) de la glándula.
