Los vasos sanguíneos circundantes y el tubo que transporta la orina desde el riñón hasta la vejiga (uréter) son seccionados lejos del riñón. Se extirpa el riñón y se cierra la incisión. A este tipo de cirugía se la denomina nefrectomía.
