Indicaciones

La adenoidectomía puede recomendarse cuando las adenoides son más grandes de lo normal y obstruyen las vías respiratorias, esta condición puede darse si el niño:

Ronca excesivamente
Tiene dificultad para respirar por la nariz (obstrucción nasal)
Tiene episodios sin respiración mientras duerme (apnea del sueño)

La adenoidectomía puede ser recomendable si el niño presenta infecciones de oído crónicas, las cuales:

Interfieren con su educación
Persisten a pesar de tratamientos con antibióticos
Muestran recurrencia cinco o más veces en un año
Se repiten tres o más veces durante el transcurso de dos años

La adenoidectomía puede ser igualmente recomendable si el niño sufre de ataques de amigdalitis repetitivos o crónicos.

Las adenoides normalmente disminuyen cuando el niño llega a la adolescencia, incluso, en raras ocasiones se necesita realizar una adenoidectomía después de la adolescencia.
