Indicaciones

Una paratiroidectomía se recomienda cuando una o más glándulas paratiroides están produciendo cantidades excesivas de hormona paratiroidea (PTH), una afección llamada hiperparatiroidismo.

El hiperparatiroidismo lleva a que se presenten niveles excesivos de calcio en la sangre, lo cual puede ocasionar síntomas como espasmos musculares o tetania, pérdida ósea (osteoporosis), enfermedades renales incluyendo cálculos renales, problemas psiquiátricos como depresión, irritabilidad, fatiga y ansiedad, al igual que dolor abdominal, náuseas y vómitos.
