Se identifica el saco de la hernia y se procede a separar los tejidos subyacentes, para luego cortar. Los tejidos subyacentes se cierran mediante suturas fuertes que no sean absorbibles. Los bordes de la piel son sostenidos con un adhesivo especial de papel (en tiras estériles). La cicatriz de esta intervención puede quedar escondida en la depresión del ombligo.
