La cirugía es recomendable en caso de un uraco persistente que no se cierra después del nacimiento. El grado de este defecto varía. Algunas veces, solamente queda sin cerrar el extremo umbilical del uraco y se genera un seno uracal que no se conecta con la vejiga sino que se introduce levemente en la piel. Este tipo de uraco puede ser extirpado localmente.
Si el uraco está abierto a lo largo de todo el trayecto hasta la vejiga, debe ser extraído y luego se cierra la vejiga.
