Algunas veces, la acalasia puede ser tratada con medicamentos que ayudan a relajar el esfínter esofágico inferior. Si esto no es efectivo, el problema se puede corregir por medio de la dilatación esofágica.
Para abrir el paso a través del esófago, se utiliza un dilatador en forma de balón que se introduce desde la boca hasta el nivel del esfínter esofágico inferior con la ayuda de un endoscopio. El balón se infla, permitiendo el ensanchamiento del esfínter.
