El páncreas está localizado en la parte posterior del abdomen. Contiene células que secretan la hormona insulina y células que secretan enzimas digestivas que ayudan a la digestión alimenticia en el tracto gastrointestinal. El páncreas secreta estas enzimas en el conducto pancreático, que une el conducto biliar común con el hígado y desemboca en el intestino delgado.
