Cáncer de colon - Serie

Procedimiento:

La cirugía es el tratamiento principal para el cáncer de colon y requiere la resección del colon involucrado. Si el cáncer se localiza cerca del recto, puede ser necesaria una colostomía.

Para las etapas I y II del cáncer de colon, la cirugía es normalmente el único tratamiento.

Para las etapas III ó IV del cáncer de colon, la quimioterapia es necesaria después de la cirugía. Hay quienes sugieren que la quimioterapia también puede ser útil en algunos pacientes seleccionados que estén en la etapa II. La quimioterapia involucra una serie de drogas que son tóxicas para las células cancerosas.
