En el procedimiento transcervical, el cirujano abre la vagina con un espéculo y desliza una catéter delgado a través de éste y el cuello uterino.
Luego, guiado por ultrasonido, el cirujano pasa el catéter hasta las vellosidades coriónicas y verifica la posición del feto en la pantalla del ultrasonido para poder maniobrar con el catéter dentro del útero sin lastimar al feto.
