Si la mordedura está sangrando en forma copiosa, se debe aplicar presión directa con un trozo de tela limpio y seco hasta que el sangrado se detenga. Se debe elevar el área de la mordedura y si ésta se presenta en la mano o los dedos, se debe llamar al médico de inmediato. En las siguientes 24 a 48 horas, se debe observar la mordedura para buscar signos de infección (aumento del enrojecimiento de la piel, inflamación o dolor). Si la mordedura resulta infectada, se debe llamar al médico o llevar a la persona a un centro de urgencias.
