Construction on the Medical Center's newest facility began with a groundbreaking ceremony on May 13, 2010. The groundbreaking blessing was delivered by Reverend Dr. Susan Carole Roy from the Medical Center's Department of Pastoral Care Services.

Governor Martin O'Malley and U.S. Representative C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger joined Medical Center leaders for the celebration, during which a major fundraising campaign led by Senator Francis X. Kelly, with Cal Ripken, Jr., serving as the honorary chairman, was announced.
