Associate Professor of Neurology
Associate Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences
Dr. Shin received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He completed a neurology residency and a multiple sclerosis fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He also completed a fellowship in neuro-ophthalmology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and the Scheie Eye Institute before joining the faculty in both the Department of Neurology and the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Maryland.
Dr. Shin has a special interest in traumatic optic neuropathy and visual problems associated with multiple sclerosis, including optic neuritis and double vision. Dr. Shin is involved in many clinical trials for disease modifying therapies in multiple sclerosis. He frequently lectures locally and nationally on multiple sclerosis and neuro-ophthalmologic topics, and has received multiple awards and commendations for his teaching and clinical excellence.
Dr. Shin has been inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and was named Health Care Professional of the Year in 2009 by the Maryland Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
