The University of Maryland Medical Center is recognized among the nation's best hospitals in nine specialty areas in the U.S. News & World Report's 2012 "Best Hospitals" list. U.S. News & World Report evaluated approximately 5,000 medical centers across the United States to rank the top 50 in 16 different adult specialties from cancer to urology.
The Medical Center moved up considerably in the rankings from 2011 to 2012 in several specialties -- our Cancer program moved from 22nd to 11th place, our Nephrology Division moved up from 27th to 9th place, our Division of Diabetes and Endocrinology moved to 11th place, up from 29th in 2011, and our Urology Division moved up from 44th to 15th place. In addition, UMMC is listed as "high-performing" in three other specialties, listed below. These means these specialties were not in the top 50, but scored in the top 25 percent nationally.
It is also ranked #2 in the Baltimore metro area.
