The University of Maryland Medical Center is recognized among the nation's best hospitals in nine specialty areas in the U.S. News & World Report's 2010 "Best Hospitals" list. U.S. News & World Report evaluated approximately 5,000 medical centers across the United States to rank the top 50 in 16 different adult specialties from cancer to urology. Only about 3 percent (152) of all U.S. hospitals are included in the rankings, which rely on such data as death rates, procedure volume and ratio of nurses to patients.
