Initial Correspondence (Donor):
Initial Testing (Donor):
- The Egg Donor Coordinator will contact the potential donor to instruct her
to make an appointment with a genetic counselor at 410 328-3339. Once the
donor makes the appointment, she should call the coordinator with
the appointment time.
- After the genetic report is reviewed (takes about 4 – 6 weeks from
appointment date), the donor will be contacted to set an appointment for a
physical and an ultrasound scan. The donor will need to use her unique donor
number and date of birth to make an appointment at 410 328-6640. The
donor must call the donor egg coordinator with the appointment time. During
the appointment the physician will review information concerning the donor
egg program. The donor will sign the donor egg consent, medical testing &
screening consent and the release of information consent.
These forms must be signed before the Donor can enter into an IVF
cycle and receive injectable medication.
- If the donor is on birth control pills, she will need to go off the pill for
one month. The donor will be instructed when to go off the pill by either
the physician or coordinator. The donor should use barrier contraceptive while
not using the pill. After being off the pill for one month, the donor should
call the IVF nurses or Egg Donor Coordinator with her day 1 bleed. (410 328-0767)
If day 1 occurs on the weekend the IVF nurse should be called by 8:00 a.m.
on Monday. If the donor is not on the pill, the donor will be instructed to
call-in with day 1 of her next menses.
- On Day 2-4 or her menstrual cycle the donor will come in for scheduled blood
tests: FSH, E2, LH, Sickle Cell Screen* (if African American), and other blood
tests requested by the genetic counselor. An ultra sound scan may be done
if it was not performed during physical examination. Some times it is possible
to schedule the physical exam on the same day as blood tests are done. After
the baseline blood tests, the egg donor can go back on birth control pills.
- If all above medical indicators are acceptable the donor enters the screened
donor pool and can be offered to recipient.
- A donor profile sheet is placed in the donor’s chart.
- The donor will not be compensated for the screening process
and is not guaranteed that a recipient will select her.
Secondary Step – Donor: Selected By Recipient
- The donor will schedule and get a psychological consultation with a licensed
clinical social worker or psychiatrist. The consultation may include a personality
test.
(The appointment will be directed by the Coordinator)
- The egg donor will get additional bloodwork plus cervical cultures including:
Gonorrhea and Chlamydia cultures, urine toxicology screen and blood work (Syphilis,
Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Cytomegalovirus, HIV I & II, HTLV I & II).
Most of these tests will be repeated within 30 days of the egg retrieval.
- The IVF nurse will contact the donor with her schedule for the IVF cycle
and will arrange the injection teaching. The IVF nurse coordinator’s phone
number is (410 328-0767).
