University of Maryland General Surgery is nationally known for performing state-of-the-art minimally invasive procedures for a wide array of conditions. These include disorders of the endocrine system and gastrointestinal tract, as well as hernia repair, bariatric surgery and much more. We also participate in the comprehensive multidisciplinary evaluation and therapy of a range of cancers.
Our surgeons are experts in minimally invasive surgery -- also referred to as laparoscopic, videoscopic or "keyhole" surgery -- which we use for most operations. This requires smaller incisions than traditional surgery, making the operations safer and reducing hospital stays and recovery times as well.
Surgeries are performed in the University of Maryland Medical Center's Operating Room of the Future, which is widely considered to be one of the nation's most technically advanced surgical facilities.
