UMMS offers several health plan options from which to choose. Fellows with health care benefits elsewhere may waive this insurance and participate in a health plan rebate program. All plans are contributory for all levels of coverage and offer vision and pharmacy benefits. Dental coverage is available with benefits paid for a variety of services.
Full salary is paid for 29 days for injury or sickness.
Fellows receive 100% of their salary for short term disability beginning on the 30th day of disability through the 90th day, and 60% thereafter. Beyond 180 days, you may be eligible for long term disability which pays 60% of your salary. Both plans are fully paid for by UMMS.
Although not a separate leave category, female fellows may use a combination of sick leave, vacation time and disability leave to permit six weeks of post-partum leave for a standard delivery and 8 weeks for a C-section. A male fellow may use annual leave to help care for his new family. Male and female fellows may use FMLA up to 12 weeks if they have met the employment requirements.
UMMS provides and pays for basic life insurance benefits equal to 100% of the fellow's salary up to $50,000. The fellow may purchase additional coverage for his/herself, spouse or dependent children.
Various plans are available to the fellow to contribute money for long-term savings on a tax deferred basis with a choice of four investment companies.
Coverage may be purchased by the fellow with the benefit of low group rates.
Fellows may establish an account to convert taxable salary dollars into tax-free benefit dollars within the limits established by the IRS. The monies are reimbursed to the fellow for eligible expenses incurred for health care and/or dependent care of children under 13 and/or disabled adult dependents. The fellow may enroll during the first 31 days of employment; afterward, the fellow can only enroll during the Open Enrollment period or if the fellow has a qualifying family status change.
Fellows are covered for medical expenses and lost work time due to injury or illness that is job related. The fellow's survivors are protected in case of death due to a job-related injury or illness.
