Hormone Therapy

What is hormone therapy?
Some types of cancer thrive and grow because of hormones that naturally occur in the body. Breast and prostate cancers are examples of cancers that need hormones to grow. Hormone therapy prevents the cancer cells from getting the hormones they need to live. This may be accomplished by:

  • removing the organ that is the source of the hormone.

  • medications that inhibit the production of the hormone or change the way it works.
