Patient Success Story: Riley Shipley

Riley Shipley is an young, avid athlete, who thought her sports career was over when she started experiencing an extreme amount of pain in her right leg.  It crippled her game.  Test after test, doctors couldn't give Riley the relief she needed to continue her sports career.  Until she came to the University of Maryland Medical Center.

Rajabrata Sarkar, MD, a vascular surgeon, and Jonathan Packer, MD, an orthopaedic surgeon, diagnosed Riley with popliteal artery entrapment syndrome.  This means there was no blood flow beneath Riley's knee when she extended her leg.  This caused an immense amount of pain for Riley when she tried to do anything besides walk, and she was even at risk of losing her leg.
