Father Donates Kidney to Save Two-Year-Old Son's Life

At 15 weeks gestation, Matthew Colantuno was diagnosed with a kidney disorder. His parents were told he would need surgery soon after his birth.

Doctors within the Center for Advanced Fetal Care monitored Matthew's development and helped his parents plan for his birth. Upon arrival, doctors and nurses within the NICU provided life-saving care when his lungs collapsed. Meanwhile, pediatric nephrologists were monitoring his kidney function and caring for him while he grew big enough to receive a living donor kidney transplant from his father.

Matthew's kidney transplant was successful, and he is now a thriving, happy little boy. He continues to be monitored by pediatric nephrologists to ensure his kidney function is normal.
