Pre-Procedure Instructions for Electrophysiology (EP) Study and Ablations

Electrophysiology Procedure
  • Do not eat or drink anything after midnight on the night before your procedure.
  • A nurse will call you with what medicine you should or should not take before your procedure.
  • You will need to get bloodwork about 5-12 days before your procedure (the EP Department will get you scheduled for your procedure and arrange with you where to go and get bloodwork done).
  • If you are coming from home for your procedure, make sure you have someone to give you a ride home. You may NOT drive home. You will likely go home in the afternoon or early evening. Sometimes the doctors may want to keep you overnight one night. Please plan for both possibilities.
  • There are many different types of ablations, so these instructions are basic ones and may vary a bit depending on your type of arrhythmia. The nurse will give you more in depth pre procedure instruction when she calls.
  • If you have any questions about your procedure, please call the EP Department at 410-328-7801

Please call if you would like to make an appointment or talk to someone about our services. Patients dial 1-866-408-6885, physicians dial 410-328-6622 or 1-800-318-1019.
