Minimally Invasive Coronary Bypass Surgery

Maryland Heart Center first hospital in Maryland performing robot-assisted coronary artery bypass surgery.

The Maryland Heart Center offers traditional and minimally invasive approaches to coronary artery bypass surgery (CABG -- coronary artery bypass grafting). These mimimally invasive approaches include:

Off-pump or "beating heart" bypass
Robot-assisted minimally invasive bypass surgery. The UM Heart Center is the first hospital performing this procedure in Maryland.
Keyhole surgery (MIDCAB) that requires just a 2-3 inch incision instead of splitting the chest open.
A pioneering advance that combines minimally invasive bypass surgery and stented angioplasty in one operation. The UM Heart Center is one of the first in the U.S. to perform this "hybrid" procedure.
