The University of Maryland Medical Center’s state-of-the-art Pulmonary Hypertension Program offers comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services to patients with all forms and stages of pulmonary hypertension. One of these treatments includes pulmonary thromboendarterectomy -- or PTE -- a delicate and complex 8-hour surgery that can cure chronic (also known as secondary) pulmonary hypertension.
UMMC is one of only a few hospitals in the country -- and the only one in the mid-Atlantic region --offering this procedure, which is performed by internationally known heart surgeon Dr. Bartley Griffith.
UMMC’s multidisciplinary team of pulmonary hypertension experts includes cardiologists, nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, pharmacists and social workers, who are skilled in working with pulmonary hypertension. This team approach, combined with Dr. Griffith’s surgical expertise, allows UMMC to provide patients with a personalized treatment plan to best meet their individual needs.
