The Maryland Heart Center provides a variety of support services to our patients. From offering physical therapy after surgery to giving customized nutrition advice, our staff members are always there to support patients before, during, and after their treatment.
Clinical nutrition services are provided to all cardiac patients before and after surgery. The dietetic technician and dietitian screen, assess and monitor patients on a regular basis. Appropriate diet recommendations, including specialized nutrition support, are integrated into the plan of care and teaching is provided as needed. The nutrition staff, as part of the core team of care providers, strives to meet patients' needs and provide exceptional care in an effort to promote positive outcomes.
All patients at the Maryland Heart Center benefit from individualized case management services. Nurse case managers communicate with the physicians, multidisciplinary teams and insurers to develop a discharge plan geared toward each patient's needs. Services include referrals for home care, inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation and assistance with ordering supplies and equipment needed at discharge.
After surgery, physical therapy helps patients to get back on their feet again. Offered bedside and in other patient areas, rehabilitation is provided by physical therapists to patients with a variety of cardiac diagnoses. Individualized exercise programs are prescribed to enhance physical recovery from surgery, prevent deconditioning and promote strength and wellness. Patients are monitored and are provided with education on activity progression, in preparation for return to daily home and community activities.
