The Maryland Heart Center's labs provide a wide range of cardiac tests and procedures to effectively diagnose and treat heart disease. Both inpatients and outpatients receive the highest care from our board certified cardiologists, who specialize in the early diagnosis and treatment of cardiac disease.
The Adult Echo Laboratory, located on the 3rd floor of the Gudelsky Building, provides several ultrasound tests of the heart (echocardiograms). These include:
Echo is also used together with a physical exercise (treadmill) or chemical exercise stress test to view the heart's pumping ability under exercise conditions, while also monitoring the patient's heart's rate, rhythm and any other abnormalities. These tests are available to the patient's health care provider to assist them in the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of various heart conditions.
The Stress Lab, located on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the Gudelsky Building, provides service to inpatients and outpatients referred for the purpose of evaluating or diagnosing heart disease. Several types of stress tests are available depending on a patient's needs and a physician's order. This may involve the patient walking on a treadmill or receiving medication that mimics exercise. Nuclear imaging (pictures) may be requested by a physician to improve interpretation. The patient will have electrodes applied to the chest that will record the heart's impulse during the test. A blood pressure cuff will be placed on the arm to record blood pressure with exercise and during recovery.
After registration, cardiology patients come to the third floor of the Gudelsky Building for EKGs, holter monitors and event records. EKG testing is a noninvasive diagnostic heart test that records a graph of the heart's electrical impulses. The EKG can show abnormalities in the presence of heart disease. Holter monitoring is a noninvasive procedure that requires the patient to wear a recording monitor for 24 hours. A technician will scan the recording and forward the results to the physician.

More than 2,500 procedures are performed annually with state-of-the-art digital imaging equipment in our cardiac catheterization lab, located on the third floor of the Gudelsky Building. Our board certified cardiologists specialize in the early diagnosis and treatment of cardiac disease. Services provided include:

The Maryland Heart Center has two state-of-the-art electrophysiology (EP) suites located on the third floor of the North Hospital (just down the hall from the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory). Studies and procedures dealing with the heart's electrical system are performed in these labs. EP studies allow our physicians to diagnose causes of abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias) and determine the appropriate treatment.
Treatment may include:
