The University of Maryland Medical Center is proud to present the "UMMC Medical Encyclopedia" iPhone application, available free on the Apple iPhone App Store or here on iTunes.
These 50,000 pages of medically reviewed information -- in both English and Spanish -- are updated regularly and organized according to symptoms, injury, disease, and surgery, as well as other categories. As an added feature, users have the ability to ask questions directly of our physicians on many specialized topics.
After its launch on July 21, 2009, UMMC's iPhone app quickly climbed the charts and is now ranked third worldwide in the "Medical" category in the Apple iTunes App Store. It has been downloaded about 1,500 times a day from more than 50 countries.
"Our app, like our Web site, can be viewed all over the world," says UMMC's manager of Web production Marc Laytar, who created the app. "Users are only a few clicks away from having the most in-depth medical information available, anywhere they happen to be. No other app has this amount of information available so conveniently."
