Liver Disease

Doctor consulting patient

More than 15 million people in the United States suffer from liver and gallbladder diseases, according to the American Liver Foundation. And, more than 43,000 die of a liver disease each year.

The liver is the largest organ in the human body. It is also one of the most important ones. The biliary system -- consisting of the bile ducts and the gallbladder -- and the pancreas are all closely associated with the functioning of the liver.

Some liver, biliary, and pancreatic diseases are congenital. Others can be prevented. In any case, whether these diseases are congenital, injury-related, viral-induced, or alcohol-induced, they can be devastating to a person's health and require professional care.
