As part of a commitment to give back to the community, the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) hosted its annual "Take a Loved to the Doctor Day" health event on Friday, September 30, 2011. UMMS puts a unique twist on this national health prevention campaign by bringing the doctors, nurses and other health care providers to the people in the community. Hundreds of guests at the event got free cholesterol and blood pressure screenings, participated in fun fitness activities and talked one-on-one with University of Maryland experts on topics ranging from heart disease and cancer to nutrition and smoking cessation.
Many guests say they come every year for the free event and report making positive changes in the lives as a result to the information they received at "Take a Loved One to the Doctor Day."
Magic 95.9 broadcast live from the event, which took place in the park in front of the University of Maryland Medical Center.
