Our genes influence everything from our height to our hair color, and they can also have a profound influence on our health. In fact, almost every disease has a genetic basis, including cancer, heart disease and diabetes. In this interview, Ellen Beth Levitt speaks with an expert in genetics about a variety of health problems that are inherited or are caused by a genetic mutation and why it's important to screen newborns for certain genetic diseases.
