In this interview, you will learn about the special care infants receive in the neonatal intensive care unit and find out what pregnant women can do to improve their chances of having a healthy baby.

Part two of this two-part program addresses the following topics:

  • Lifestyle issues for pregnant women
  • Smoking, alcohol and diet
  • Prenatal testing
  • Measurements at birth
  • Fetal alcohol syndrome
  • Birth defects
  • Folic acid
  • Neural tube defects
  • Environmental hazards for pregnancy

Guest:
Dr. Cynthia Bearer, a pediatrician and head of neonatology at the University of Maryland Hospital for Children. Dr. Bearer is also a professor of pediatrics at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
