In this 16-minute video, Dr. Rajabrata Sarkar, Chief of Vascular Surgery at the University of Maryland Medical Center, uses a minimally invasive approach to treat a completely blocked artery in the thigh. During this procedure, Dr. Sarkar places a stent in the blockage using a catheter the size of a single-needle puncture. The patient, who was awake during the entire procedure, will have a shortened recovery time and will be able to walk significantly further than prior to the procedure.
