Adult congenital heart patients are a growing population in the United States because heart surgery is so prevalent and advanced. In past years, children with very complicated heart problems did not survive to adulthood, but now for the first time, the U.S. has a whole population of people that are living with some degree of cardiac impairment.
In this two-minute video, Dr. Stacy Fisher, assistant professor of medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and complex heart disease expert at the University of Maryland Medical Center, discusses the Complex Heart Program at UMMC designed to treat this special subset of heart disease patients. Dr. Fisher talks about the different services offered through the program, as well as what makes this particular program unique when compared to others like it throughout the country.
