He discusses his role as a general surgeon during the relief mission, the challenges faced by his team upon arriving in Haiti and his impressions of the Haitian medical students who assisted him.
Dr. Gens talks about the resilience of the Haitian people he treated, emphasizing the way they prided themselves on keeping both their family members and their surrounding environment as clean as possible. He also sheds light on the challenges now faced by medical students in Haiti, whose education is at a standstill since medical schools have collapsed and professors have left the country or died during the earthquake.
