In this four-minute video, Linda Goetz, the director of nurse anesthesia for the University of Maryland Medical Center, discusses her experience traveling to Haiti as part of the Shock Trauma Center's ongoing medical mission. She talks about her role in the mission, the challenges she faced trying to fulfill that role, and the lessons she learned while she was there.
Linda also reflects on the conditions she was met with upon her arrival in Haiti, including the "tent cities" she saw scattered throughout Port-au-Prince and the language barrier between English speaking physicians and their French Creole patients. She mentions the continued need for support in the devastated country and talks about different ways people can get involved in the relief effort themselves.
