Rickey, M.D., M.P.H., an expert in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery at the University of Maryland Medical Center, discusses pelvic organ prolapse as well as some of the different treatment options available for women diagnosed with this condition.
Dr. Rickey details one type of surgical repair, known as sacrocolpopexy, which women might choose to correct pelvic organ prolapse. She explains the evolution of this procedure from open surgery to robot-assisted surgery, focusing on the advantages offered to both patients and surgeons through the more advanced robot-assisted procedure while highlighting the unique benefits available to patients who choose to undergo the procedure at UMMC.
