In this seven-minute video, pediatric cardiologist Dr. Peter Gaskin take viewers on a tour of the new University of Maryland Hospital for Children's Pediatric Hybrid Catheterization Suite, which opened in October 2010. Unlike other catheterization labs in the region, the state-of-the-art technology incorporated into this hybrid suite provides cardiologists and surgeons the ability to transition from a standard catheterization procedure to open heart surgery when patients require such treatment. In the video, Drs. Gaskin and Cardarelli explain each component comprising the new hybrid suite and discuss the benefits such a suite offers to patients, as well as their parents and physicians.
