Overview:

Thomas M. Scalea, MD, physician-in-chief of the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center discusses his recent trip to Afganistan, where he observed the "Wounded Warrior" care system in the field, during transport and in military hospitals.

Dr. Scalea flew on the mission as a lead contributor to the training for the Air Force's Center for Sustainment of Trauma and Readiness Skills, known as C-STARS. Air Force Lt. Col. Raymond Fang, MD, the director of the C-STARS program in Baltimore, provides some background on Dr. Scalea's trip, the relationship between the UM Shock Trauma Center and C-STARS and more.
