Diana L. Vargas, M.D.

Dr. Vargas received her medical degree from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogota, Colombia. She later came to the United States and completed a four year post doctoral fellowship in NeuroImmunology and Neurovirology at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She then went on to the University of Maryland to finish her neurology residency. She stayed at the Maryland Center for Multiple Sclerosis at the University of Maryland as well as in the VA MS Center of Excellence to complete a clinical NeuroImmunology fellowship after which she joined on as faculty in the Department of Neurology.

Dr. Vargas has a special interest in infections of the central nervous system as well as patients who develop multiple sclerosis. Dr. Vargas is currently involved in developing animal models of virus induced demyelination and characterizing patterns of disease severity as it relates to EAE and HIV.
