University of Maryland Medical Center Blood Drive to be Held March 24-26

For immediate release: March 18, 2015

The American Red Cross has issued an urgent appeal for blood donations following recent winter storms that hit most of the nation. Because of the storms, at least 200 blood drives were canceled, so everyone is being asked to help restock the shelves.

The next UMMC Blood Drive is March 24-26 from 8 am-8 pm, in the Gudelsky lobby of the main hospital. Schedule your appointment today for March 24, March 25 or March 26. Anyone is welcome to donate, and we encourage you to bring a friend.

All donors receive a $5 gift card good at any UMMC eatery, and will be entered into a drawing to win two tickets to the Broadway musical Dirty Dancing at the Hippodrome or to a future Orioles game.

The blood donation process takes about an hour, but the donation itself only takes about 10 minutes. By volunteering that hour of your time, you can save three lives.

To be eligible to donate you must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and not have donated blood within the last 56 days.

If you have problems making an appointment, please email Kathryn Leiter with the time you want to give, and she will make the appointment for you.

Every unit counts, and the life you save could be someone you know. Make your appointment today!
