Perioperative Services Team Wins Prestigious Award

UMMC first in world to receive AORN's Outstanding Facility Achievement Award

The University of Maryland Medical Center's Perioperative Services Team has been selected by the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) to receive the first annual Outstanding Facility Achievement Award in Perioperative Nursing for 2010. UMMC is the first institution in the world to receive the AORN Outstanding Facility Achievement Award.

This award was newly created by the AORN Board of Directors to recognize one institution each year for outstanding collegial achievement in exemplifying the mission of the AORN. The criteria used to measure outstanding facility achievement include:

Evidence-based perioperative practice
An effective recruitment and retention program
Innovative leadership
Perioperative teamwork
Commitment to perioperative patient safety
Education programs for perioperative staff, other disciplines, patients and the community
Staff AORN membership and certification
