Kristin Seidl, PhD, RN, director of outcomes for nursing and patient care services, received an industry-sponsored grant to develop a tool that nurses in Perioperative Services can use to assess a patient's risk of developing pressure ulcers during surgery.
The initiative is being led by Seidl, with partners from the University of Maryland School of Medicine: epidemiologists Mona Baumgarten, PhD, associate professor in the division of gerontology, and Jon Furuno, PhD, assistant professor of epidemiology and public health. Also involved are a team of perioperataive nurses: Nicholas Troeleman, BSN, RNFA, director of perioperative services; Melissa Reece, MSN, RN, CNOR; and Ann Mead, BSN, CNOR, who are who are also working with the SOM staff to evaluate new mattresses for the operating rooms.
