CONSUMERS, PHYSICIANS CAN POINT AND CLICK TO A UM SPECIALIST

Consumers or physicians searching for a medical specialist can now tap the University of Maryland Medical Center's web site (www.umm.edu) for a new listing of all 800 of its doctors and their areas of expertise.

The on-line "Find a Doctor" guide is updated every time there is a change and can provide an appropriate match in seconds by entering a doctor's name, typing a key word (such as cancer or hypertension) or using a pull-down menu of the Medical Center's 80-plus specialties.

"We've tried to build a system that's both accurate and easy to use," says Linda Anderson, director of web development, who leads the project. "The internet is changing the way people get health-related information and the way health care organizations do business. Our 'Find a Doctor' site is the first of many changes we are making in our web site to enable people to get health care information quickly and easily," Anderson says.

Each listing contains the doctor's name, specialty and subspecialty, and special interests and/or conditions treated. Searchers also find academic credentials and specialty certifications.

The "Find a Doctor" listing can be accessed either from the web site or by entering www.umm.edu/findadoctor in any browser.
