UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND DOCTORS TOP U.S. NEWS "TOP DOCTORS" LIST

Baltimore, MD — August 1, 2011. U.S. News & World Report is well-known for its annual Best Hospitals list, published each year in the August edition of the magazine. But this year, the magazine added a new component: an on-line listing of some of the nation’s “top doctors."

The University of Maryland has more than 60 doctors on this list, representing a wide range of specialties. More than 40 of our doctors have a special "Top" badge next to their names, indicating that the survey determined that they were in the top one percent of their specialty field.

The U.S. News Top Doctors list was compiled by an independent agency that sent surveys to thousands of doctors and health care professionals across the country asking them to identify excellent doctors in every specialty. In addition to the mail and online surveys, the researchers called thousands of leading specialists, chairs of clinical departments and vice presidents of medical affairs seeking their input. A physician-led research team then reviewed the credentials of all doctors considered for the list looking at a variety of factors, including medical education, training, hospital appointments, administrative posts and professional achievements.

These University of Maryland top doctors practice at a top hospital. The University of Maryland Medical Center ranked among the top 50 best hospitals nationwide in nine specialties in U.S. News & World Report’s 2011 – 2012 Best Hospitals ranking.
